When you start thinking about the environment, the global climate change debate, carbon emission reduction, waste and energy management you can’t stop.  When you start researching these issues, you bump into people who are doing the same.  When you absorb the information, what feels odd is that people are not jumping up and down enough. Perhaps like me you are finding it difficult to sit still, and maybe you are thinking about what you can do.

The idea behind Footprint Friends was evolved after watching An Inconvenient Truth; a shocking movie that got me thinking and wanting to understand more. The concept of Footprint Friends was triggered after attending an exhibition called Think 07 and the development was supported by Charlotte Jewell who at 15 came to us at Windy Tree on work experience with the objective of learning about marketing.

In undertaking some research into the ideas behind Footprint Friends, Charlottes feedback, enthusiasm and commitment was such that we all went the extra mile to launch this website on her return to school after the half term.

Footprint Friends is a Windy Tree initiative launched to raise awareness about environmental issues amongst 11-18 year olds. Through the site we hope members will ask questions, change attitudes, and have a voice about the future facing them as adults. Footprint Friends is dedicated to my three children Amelia, Eleanor, Alex and their future generations.

Sustainability

As a responsible contractor, Marland will be playing its part in helping the Construction Industry reach targets for sustainable construction to 2015 and beyond. One example which demonstrates its approach in this area, is a commitment to utilise WRAP best practice guidelines for waste minimisation and management. In addition, Marland are reviewing environmental management systems such as ISO 14001 with a view to standardising its business processes in this area.

Quality

Marland provide a service to clients in a manner that conforms with contractual and regulatory requirements to deliver projects in both a cost and environmentally efficient/effective manner. Performance benchmarking and improvement will be facilitated via use of Constructing Excellence KPIs. Marland are also implementing the ISO 9001 quality management system, with a timeline for accreditation of Spring 2009.

Health & Safety

Significant management time and company resources are deployed to deliver effective Health & Safety practices covering activities compliant with all relevant statutory legislation like the Health & Safety at Work Act etc 1974 and regulatory codes of practice. As a principal contractor, Marland also discharge its responsibilities under the CDM Regulations 2007 to ensure that construction work is carried out safely and without risk to health. We work with clients to minimise environmental impact, with a particular focus currently on the reduction of waste and use of sustainable products. Adamson Construction Services are accredited with BS EN ISO 9001:2000 in productivity and quality. Regular external and internal audits are conducted which mean we can assure clients that our systems and processes are continually developed and improved.
